American officials have granted temporary asylum to 29 Mexicans who have been threatened by drug traffickers linked to the Camarena case. The temporary visas were given to 6 Mexicans and their families. four of the men were members of the Mexican federal police force. The group is said to have abducted a suspected drug trafficker. Rene Martin Verdugo. who is believed to have been present during the torture of Camarena. and handed him over to American authorities at the U.S.-Mexican border.
