To mark this 68th anniversary. I added my name to a Congressional letter sent to General Secretary Gorbachev in which I called for the Immediate release of Mikhail Kukobaka. the brave Blelaruslan dissident who was first arrested In 1970 for "antiSoviet slander." and had continually been rearrested each time his prison term has been served. His only crime Is that he has renounced his Soviet citizenship and desires to emigrate from Russia. This courageous Individual who continues to stand up against the tyranny of his oppressors Is a source of strength and Inspiration for Blelaruslars throughout the world. who hope and pray for the day when their beloved country may once again join the community of free nations.
