Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990164776

President. although many of my colleagues have participated in the Congressional Call to Conscience to draw attention to the plight of Soviet Jewry. only a few of us have had the opportunity to actually meet the Soviet Jews who fill our hearts and minds with concern. Because of this. I want to acquaint my colleagues with the lifestyle of two friends of mine. Inna and Naum Meiman. The Meimans were married. both for the second time. in 1981. Naum is a physicist. Inna is an English tutor in her midfifties. Naum has a daughter in Colorado who emigrated some years ago. I visited their apartment in Moscow on the fifth floor. The building does not have an elevator which makes life very difficult for 72yearold Naum and for Inna who is critically ill with cancer.
