Mr. Chairman. Today. we again have the opportunity to extend the authorizations for the Community and Migrant Health Center Programs through fiscal year The Community and Migrant Health Centers extend needed and invaluable health care services to poor and underserved communities. In the past 20 years these programs have grown and matured into a network of nearly 800 primary health care centers in all 50 States. Puerto Rico. and the District of Columbia. But. in spite of this progress. the health centers still reach less than onequarter of Americas 25 million medically underserved residents. Sixty percent of the population using community health centers subsist below the Federal poverty level.
