His trial is pending. Last week. Yuri Orlov began his 10th year in detention. There are 40 imprisoned Soviet Helsinki monitors among an estimated 10.000 Soviet prisoners of conscience. As I said earlier. we rejoice in the release of Anatoly Shcharansky. but we must not forget those who still remain in the Soviet Union. those who continue to be denied their right to emigrate. to practice their religion. to learn their culture. and to pass on their heritage to their children. At this point. Mr. Speaker. I would like to add that the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe has just completed a brief. updated report on the 40 imprisoned members of the Helsinki monitoring groups in the Soviet Union and Lithuania. which I respectfully request be put in the RECORD following my statement.
