Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990153214

Mr. Speaker. I rise in strong support of H.R. 2418. the Health Services Amendments of 1985. extending the authorization for community and migrant health programs for 3 years. through fiscal year It is most important that Congress reauthorize these programs for a full 3year period as they have not been authorized since fiscal year 1984. The resulting uncertainty has been unfair both to the patients who are served by community health centers and to the health professionals who work in them. If there was ever a program deserving of unwavering Federal support. it is the Community Health Centers Program. Community health centers are the primary source of health care for the medically underserved population. covering an estimated 5.2 million people. 80 percent of whom are children under 18.
