Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990140920

Of particular concern to me is the plight of Soviet Jews whose mistreatment and persecution by Soviet authorities has been well documented. In the U.S.S.R.. Jews are denied the right to worship free from the threat of reprisal. Yet. at the same time they are denied the right to emigrate to Israel or other countries where they might live a full Jewish life. In the Soviet Union. Jews that have applied for exit visas but have been turned down are referred to as refusniks. As a participant in the Congressional Call to Conscience. I am proud to have adopted two brave young refusniks.
