This day marks the unanimous adoption of the Universal Declaration of Iluman Rights by the U.N. General Assembly on December 10. 1948. The document guarantees to all people fundamental human rights. including the right to the freedoms of religious expression. conscience. and emigration. Mr. Speaker. as we commemorate the 37th anniversary of this landmark agreement and recommit our. selves to the principle of human rights. we must not forget the victims of human rights abuses around the world. Rather. we must intensify our efforts to ensure that all people are accorded these basic human rights.
