Speech #990116385

Mr. Speaker. I rise today to recognize the diamond jubilee of St. Valentines Polish National Catholic Church in Philadelphia. On Sunday. November 10. the parish will celebrate its 75th anniversary. On February 14. 1910. 400 Polish immigrants established St. Valentines to meet both the spiritual and cultural needs of their community. At that time. the nearest Catholic Church was Inaccessible. making the daily practice of their faith difficult. This small but determined group sought the satisfaction of their religious and cultural needs by organizing a community of believers that shared a similar Polish heritage. Today. St. Valentines continues to minister to the descendants of that Polish Catholic community.
