Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990084594

Mr. President. I am voting against passage of the immigration reform bill. I support immigration reform. but I am unable to support the provisions of the bill before us today. The issue of immigration reform has been before the Congress for a number of years. The public is concerned about the number of illegal immigrants entering this country. I think it Is important to move forward in finding a solution to this problem. The House of Representatives will be considering its own version of immigration reform. based on the bill introduced by my colleague from New Jersey. the chairman of the Judiciary Committee. PETER RODINO. The Rodino bill is preferable to the Senate bill in several important respects.
