Refuseniks are Jews denied the right to leave the Soviet Union. Often they want to join family members in Israel. The Soviet Union denies Soviet Jews their right of freedom of religion. The booklet draws attention to this policy of abuse and points out that during the past year the Soviets have increased their harassment of Hebrew teachers and Jewish activists in the U.S.S.R. The Jews profiled in the pamphlet represent only a handful of the thousands of Jews who struggle to maintain their religion and to emigrate to Israel. Members of Congress have always strongly supported the rights of Soviet Jews. Many of us have adopted refusenik families.
