Mr. President. I support the amendment of Senator WILSON which would establish a program to provide legal seasonal workers in the perishable crop industry. This amendment is vital to the agricultural economy of the West and the food industry and economy of the country as a whole. I have worked over the last 4 years to ensure that whatever immigration reform legislation Congress ultimately approved. the result would not be disastrous for this Nations growers and ranchers. Disaster for our Nations agricultural employers would be a disaster for everyone in this Senators judgment. The price of food would skyrocket. The quality of our foodstuffs would plummet.
