Restaurants would have difficulty in obtaining fresh fruits and vegetables to serve to their customers. But. most important. the American consumer would find it difficult to obtain some of this Nations most valued food products and will pay higher prices from those perIshable commodities able to find their way to the marketplace. If S. 1200 is not amended with respect to the seasonal workers provisions. this countrys perishable crop growers will have to decide between hiring undocumented. and probably illegal workers. or losing their crops. A wellbalanced immigration reform package should not furce perishable crop farmers to make that choice. Mr. President.
