Mr. President. the United States as well as other nations have been very generous in supporting the Afghans as have other countries who are presently working with the Afghan refugees in Pakistan. This amendment. if adopted. we hope will serve to stem the flow of refugees out of Afghanistan by providing some humanitarian assistance which might. by easing the burden they bear. encourage them to remain within the country I think that is an important point to consider in this matter. If the floor managers have nothing further to say. I am ready to vote on the amendment at this time.
