Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990030926

Her anguish has been compounded by the Soviet Governments refusal to grant permission to Simon Levin to travel to the Soviet Union to take custody of their son. Mark. The tragedy of the Levin family has recently been brought to the attention of the American people through stories in the Washington Post and other newspapers around the country. Despite numerous previous U.S. appeals on Mrs. Levins behalf and the recent Senate letter to General Secretary Gorbachev. signed by nearly 30 Members of this body. the Soviet Government continues to deny Mrs. Levins 7%-year request to emigrate. Although time is quickly running out on Mrs. Levin and on our ability to help her. we must not give up.
