Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990012041

President. this Nation has a tradition of equality of educational op. portunity for all of its citizens. regardless of financial background. Our belief in. and support for. access to education for all has given me and many others like me opportunities our parents never dreamed of. It is our responsibility to make certain that those opportunities are not closed off for others coming after us. The fact that the child of an immigrant factory worker and school janitor could become a U.S. Senator is a tribute in large part to the opportunities that were available to my generation. We cannot deny that opportunity to future generations.
