The Attorney General directs the Department of Justice and has total responsibility for enforcing our Nations civil and criminal law. the FBI. the Federal Bureau of Prisons. the Drug Enforcement Administration. the U.S. Parole Commission. the U.S. Marshal Service and the Immigration and Naturalization Service. The Attorney General directs the actions of hundreds of Government attorneys who represent the United States in legal matters generally and give advice to other Federal departments. The Attorney General. as chief lawyer and law enforcement officer and legal adviser to the President and to the Nation. by the very nature of his position sets an extraordinary example to this country and guides our nationally elected leaders in the difficult matters of law and justice: the most fundamental precepts of our democracy.
