During the summer of 1982. Polina attempted to move closer to the Vydrino labor camp in order to be near Aleksandr. but Soviet authorities warned her that she would lose her "propiska." residency permit. for her home in Kharkov if she remained in Vydrino. The camp. not far from the Mongolian border. is over 3.000 miles from Kharkov. She was further informed that the Paritsky family would not receive an exit visa until at least 1990. In the labor camp. Aleksandr was ordered to work 12 hours a day. even though he suffered from high blood pressure. and fainted twice while working.
