Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990005072

I. myself. have already written. in protest of the treatment of Yuli Edelshtein. to the Soviet authorities. As official harrassment of Soviet Jews continues. and becomes more pronounced. so must our opposition. both public and private. continue and grow. Hopefully our efforts and the courage of the Soviet Jews will someday put an end to the moratorium on Jewish emigration and the official policy of antiSemitism now present in the Soviet Union. Again I want to compliment the gentleman from Maryland for not only the special order today. but his outspoken support for the cause of the refuseniks. This is something that many of us will look back and say that not only was it the right thing to do. but it was the just thing to do.
