Macias has purchased a restaurant which he operates. They have employed over 12 New Mexicans in the two businesses. Their daughter Mary is a student at New Mexico State University and their. son attends high school in Alamogordo. The reaction of the people of Alamogordo to the news of the familys possible deportation is overwhelming. One petition I received bears the signatures of over 500 people requesting my assistance in enabling the Macias to remain in Alamogordo. Numerous people have written letters to the local newspapers. to elected officials. and to Federal agencies. seeking help to allow the Macias family to continue to live in their community.
