Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990002611

I have taken the time and had occasion to visit the Patels in their home in suburban Philadelphia. a beautiful home. indicative to the contribution which they have made to this country. I have visited Mr. Patels service station and can personally attest to the fact that Mr. Patel is a productive. lawabiding citizen. The Patels will bp faced with a deportation order under which they will be forced to return to India. Their American dream will be brought to an abrupt and painful end if that deportation order is carried out. The forced exclusion of such hardworking. conscientious. and communityspirited people is certainly not what our immigration laws were designed to accomplish. This is certainly the case when their effect is to permanently disrupt the lives of young. Americanborn children.
