Speech #980227850

Mr. President. our country is a land almost completely comprised of immigrants. Our origins are different. our ethnic groups are different. our reasons for leaving our homelands are different. Yet weve come and worked together to make our country what it is today. Id like to take this opportunity to introduce a joint resolution which recognizes a particular ethnic group that has long been an integral part of our countrythe Polish Americans. The very first Poles came to Jamestown in 1608. No steady stream of immigration followed for nearly two centries. but those individuals that were in America made important contributions to the status of this country. During the Revolutionary War. Count Casimir Pulaski was a leading cavalry officer.
