Mr. Chairman. I appreciate the gentlemans remarks. I would just like to make two final points before concluding. First. the Senate has adopted a similar provision to its immigration bill last year. The amendment was sponsored by Senator DAMATO. who has worked very hard on this legislation. The supporters of this amendment include the National Governors Association. the National Association of Counties. the U.S. Conference of Mayors. the National League of Cities. and the American Correctional Association. The administration has expressed no opposition. With that. I know that we have had some lengthy conversations between the good gentleman from Kentucky who has done such an outstanding job on this legislation throughout these past weeks. and indeed it was a fine debate that we have had. and the gentleman from New York and I think he has some suggestions to make which then we could accept in terms of speeding the proceedings in the House.
