Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980218997

What is at stake here is the integrity of our judicial process and the security which comes from knowing that our system is one of justice and not of men. On February 9. 1984. I spoke with Judge Hupp in a phone conversation. He told me that at the time he withdrew from the case. he was going to rule in favor of Mr. ORourke and allow him to stay in this country because he had not committed any crimes in the United States. his offenses in Ireland were political in nature. and he is married to an American citizen. He also said that he supports the private immigration bill I have introduced for Mr. ORourke because he believes Mr. ORourke deserves relief.
