Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980214605

I certainly want to defer to the gentlemans population growth expertise and certainly coming from a State like Michigan. which has a very high and has had even worse unemployment in the immediate years past. but I want to point out that the intention of this gentleman in supporting the amendment that is before us revolves around the process of what we do in the bill with respect to. for example. subsidizing the welfare and subsistence rolls in States that have problems with those who are undocumented. that are then given. for example. legal status by virtue of the amnesty provision. I think the gentleman understands that. It is a problem that this bill does deal with.
