I have been in law enforcement for many years. and I was the sheriff of my county. The thing that bothered me is that we talk about probable cause. the right to go and ask something because you feel you have enough probable cause to interrogate. Like the committee chairman. the gentleman from Texas . stated. if we are going to give the right to every law enforcement agency to stop everybody just because they look illegal or they are wearing blue jeans and maybe they happen to be on the heavy side and are darkcomplected and have a mustache. are they going to question them because they appear to be illegal aliens because there is probable cause? This is what really bothers me. When I was sheriff. it was none of the responsibility of local law enforcement to enforce Federal law. We would leave it up to the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Border Patrol to do their job. This is my concern on this amendment.
