Chairman. let me take a few moments to set the stage for our colleagues about where we are today. and then I will address the amendment of the gentleman from Washington as advanced by the chairman of the committee. First. let me thank all the Members of the House who voted for the rule yesterday. The resounding vote of 291 to 111 does indicate one thing clearly. that is that the House does not want to do nothing with respect to immigration reform. The House wants to do something. We hope in the remaining 4 days of this historic debate that we can deliver to the House a bill which everyone can support proudly.
