Central Place. later renamed the Central Friendly Inn. was founded and quickly began to prosper. Eventually. Mr. Speaker. the original purpose of the Central Friendly Inn at No. 67 Central Place. was expanded. The inn assumed more characteristics of a modern settlement house. Classes for dancing. cooking. and sewing were initiated. Soon. the inn catered primarily to the immigrants who had settled in the Cleveland area and who replaced the former denizens of the saloons which had decreased in number. The inn enjoyed such popularity that it expanded that year to include the building at No. 69 Central Place. With the increase in size and programs. the inn was incorporated in 1879.
