The ChineseAmerican Voters Association strives to help new arrivals in Queens attain greater political awareness of local and national issues. Many of the associations members explain life in America as regular contributors to the 10 major Chineselanguage newspapers and other publications in New York City. The group itself conducts massive voter registration drives to add new citizens to the election rolls. Since its founding just 1 year ago. the association has grown dramatically to 500 members. most recently emigrants from Taiwan who continue to speak in their native Mandarin language. The association hopes to attract even more of Queens 70.000 ChineseAmerican residents. and to help them become politically active on the local level. Mr.
