The placement of the museum in our Capitals National Mall insures it the importance and accessibility it deserves. I am also pleased by the recent announcement of a New York City Holocaust Memorial Center. The living memorial. hopefully to be housed in the historic U.S. Custom House. would present the themes of Jewish immigration to New York. European Jewish life. and the Holocaust and its aftermath. This Memorial Center will serve to acquaint New York City. with the largest Jewish population in the world and the largest number of Jewish Holocaust survivors in one community. with the memory of its rich Jewish heritage and of the Holocaust.
