Mr. President. I rise today to join as a cosponsor of Senate Joint Resolution 94. expressing the sense of the Senate that Syrian Jews be allowed to emigrate. Today. nearly 5.000 Syrian Jews are held hostage in their own country. They are the only group in Syria forbidden to emigrate. Their identity cards state they are Jewish. while religion is not mentioned on any other religious groups cards. Their right to travel abroad is severely restricted and. if they are granted permission to leave the country. they must post a $5.000 bond and leave a close family member behind to insure their return.
