Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980166640

I believe that those of us in Congress and elsewhere who are concerned about these courageous people must continue to speak out on the issue. to send letters to the Soviet authorities. and to seek contact with refuseniks and other oppressed Soviet citizens. We need to support these beleaguered people wherever and whenever possible. We need to put constant pressure on the Soviet Government to ease its restrictions on emigration and its other repressive policies. I plan to continue my own effortsand I know many of my colleagues will do the sameon behalf of the refuseniks and other victims of human rights violations in the Soviet Union and all around the world.
