Mr. President. I would like to take this opportunity to express my deep concern for the Soviet Jews who are desperately trying to emigrate to a land of freedom where they will be able to live and worship God in peace. I am pleased that today. March 15. has been designated as the International Day of Concern for Soviet Jews. I think it is appropriate that we take time to reflect on ways in which we may be able to help those who are persecuted for their beliefs. As Americans. we cannot comprehend the necessity of being forced to leave our country in order to pursue freedom.
