I am pleased to join in this special order for the International Day of Concern for Soviet Jews. It is a fitting way to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the arrest of Anatoly Shcharansky. As is well known. the Jews of the Soviet Union are routinely denied the privilege of practicing their religion. and every indication we have is that their situation has been worsening over the past few years. An official antiSemitic campaign is being conducted under the guise of "antiZionism." and emigration has been almost entirely cut off. The choking off of emigration has had tragic consequences for many families. Mr. Speaker.
