Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980166508

Leonid Lubman. has not been heard from in the year following my trip to Russia. Mr. Lubman. a Soviet Jew imprisoned solely for his desire to emigrate to Israel in order to practice freely his faith. has been adopted by many of my constituents in northeastern Oklahoma and me. We have made a concerted effort to keep him aware of our support for his effort to gain permission to emigrate. and we have written to Soviet officials both in this country and in Russia. urging them to reconsider their decision to imprison Mr. Lubman. and issue him a visa to emigrate to Israel. I have never received a response to any of my letters. It is more than likely that Leonid Lubman never received them.
