They live in limbo. are fired from their jobs. suffer high unemployment. and are subjected to various forms of KGB harassment. including surveillance. searches. house arrest. interference with their mail. and threats of long prison terms. They are not free to practice their religion and they face the danger of losing all knowledge of their rich cultural heritage. Mr. Speaker. we cannot remain silent during this period. We must raise our voices in protest to the Soviet Government to pressure them into changing its terrible treatment of Soviet Jews. We must take the lead in demanding that the Soviet leadership treat the Jews of Russia with dignity and respect and allow them to emigrate to Israel. This coming Saturday night. March 17.
