Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980158176

It is also an appropriate time to honor the close bonds and ties between the two nations and their peoples. As a Nation that successfully struggled for independence and freedom 45 years earlier. the United States feels a special kinship with the people of Greece. This relationship has further benefited and grown by the priceless contributions that have been made to American culture over the past century by Greek immigrants. For these reasons. I believe that it is both fitting and proper to designate March 25 as "Greek Independence Day." I hope that my colleagues will join with me and support this resolution.
