There was a time when 4percent unemployment was considered to be a problem. Now we are being told that 7 or 8 percent is tolerable. In the case of hunger. there was a time when Americans were appalled when many children did not measure up to the proper height and weight for their age group. Now we are being told that there is no clearly visible problem because our children do not resemble the refugee children fleeing from famine. It is as if we have decided to accept conditions which are marginally better than the poorest parts of the world. This is ridiculous.
