Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980140202

Mr. Speaker. your decision to deny this Chamber the opportunity to debate the issue of immigration reform is most disconcerting to those of us who look up to the House of Representatives as a place where the paramount issues facing our Nation can be considered. This is the peoples House. Mr. Speaker. and it is our responsibility to tackle questions that are integral to the dynamics of our society. The issue of who and under what circumstances people will physically enter our country from other nations is certainly one of those fundamental questions that we. as policymakers. must address. Why is the leadership of this body so timid about an issue that is of such importance and such historical significance to the American people?
