The Ethiopian Jews. or Falashas. are severely discriminated against. and are denied the freedom to practice their religion. In addition. they are among the hardest hit of those Ethiopians affected by the drought afflicting this area of Africa. As though this were not enough. the Ethiopian Government frowns upon emigration. and these Falashas are restricted to remaining in their country subject to repression. or fleeing to neighboring countries where they must live as refugees. It is of great importance that we do all that we can to promote human rights in all the nations of the world. This ancient Jewish community needs our support to gain its freedom. and I would like to thank Rabbi Kaplan.
