Session #98 · 1983–85

Speech #980128471

Mr. Speaker. the formal history of St. Marys PNCC in Duryea is a story of struggle. persecution and courage of the poor and exploited Polish immigrants who. endowed with a constitutional guarantee of religious freedom. realized their dream of worshipping God in their own. unique way in a church which they constructed and owned. Some idea of the struggle involved in the 85 years which we now celebrate can be found in the fact that the original church was burned to the ground in 1908 by a neverapprehended arsonist. The church was rebuilt and served as a spiritual and social center for its people.
