He was indeed our first immigrant and on Columbus Day we all pay tribute to his spirit of adventure which has led to the ethnic diversity of our country. The voyage of Columbus symbolizes the many outstanding contributions of Italian Americans to our country. including their history. traditions. and culture which are so vital to our civilization. The Italian community is joined by all Americans on this important day to commemorate the achievements of Christopher Columbus and to pay tribute to one of Americas greatest strengthsour diverse ethnic heritages.
