Speech #970189987

Latvia. and Lithuania before invading and occupying them. Within a few days of June 14 the following year. thousands of Estonian. Latvian. and Lithuanian citizens were deported to various parts of the Soviet Union. mainly Siberia. Basic freedomideas we hold so dear yet take for grantedcontinue to be violated by the Soviet Union in these countries. The Soviet Union has also ignored the respect and pride the Baltic people have for their respective countries. By deporting the Estonians. Latvians. and Lithuanians the Russians have tried to change the ethnic character of the Baltic nations and destroy their national identity. We must not be reconciled to their fate and must continue to support their quest for freedom. national independence. and selfdetermination.
