Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970189985

Just last March. over 50 members joined with me in signing a letter to President Brezhnev urging the release of Federov and another dissident. Aleksei Murzhenko. on humanitarian grounds. On this week of his birthday it is essential that we remember Yuri Federov. his bravery and his love of freedom. He has been charged with treason. antiSoviet activities. and other crimes. although his only real "offense" was attempting to emigrate and aid others in their quests for freedom. Let us continue to put pressure on the Soviet leadership and never forget people like Yuri Federov so that they do not disappear into the darkness of the Soviet Union.e
