Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970165331

I also want to echo what the gentleman from California has said. I know of the gentlemans hard work on this issue. It is an issue that really does not affect the gentleman particularly in his district. but some of us have had occasion to see some of the refugee camps. like the Haitian camp that the gentleman from New York and I saw in Puerto Rico. While this does not directly affect those circumstances. it does affect the area of our countrys dealing with what is a very complex problem. and it shows that we are not going to discriminate in terms of who we care about either because of their race or color. So I think what it does. really. is show that we still have a heart when it comes to this area. After all. we are indeed a nation of refugees in terms of our own background. I want to commend the gentleman.
