We cannot. we must not let this issue be buried. We must persist in renewed efforts to encourage the Soviet Union to comply with internationally accepted human rights standards. House Joint Resolution 373 urges the Soviet Government to comply with its obligations under various international accords to respect rights of freedom of thought. conscience. expression. religion. and emigration. It calls upon the President to join us in our opposition to the Soviets current policy of persecution. and to send a message to the U.S. delegation to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights meeting in Geneva this month to reinforce our commitment to fight for human rights in the Soviet Union. Accordingly.
