Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970131902

I will advise the gentleman that this matter is really not in the jurisdiction of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. It is the Committee on the Judiciary that would have to be addressing itself to the gentlemans request. Therefore. we agree in conference to the senseofCongress provision that I have just read. but the jurisdiction. as far as deportation or immigration status is concerned. is within the jurisdiction of the Committee on the Judiciary. and I would respectfully submit that the gentleman should seek his relief or a continuation of his desires with that particular committee and the chairman of that committee. Nevertheless. I can assure the gentleman that as a Member who is interested in the fate of Salvadorans. some of whom are here.
