Mr. Speaker. on December 9. Mrs. Daisy Mains of St. Paul. Minn.. will be 90 years old. Daisy has had a life of accomplishment. and a life of triumph over adversity. One of seven children in an immigrant family. Daisy taught in the St. Paul school system until her marriage to Alex Mains in 1920. Shortly after her marriage. she contracted rheumatic fever. and was left with a shortened leg. After months of painful recuperation. she learned again to walk. and was able to resume an active and useful life. She returned to college. and in 1926. with a 4yearold daughter in the audience. received her B.A. degree from the University of Minnesota.
