Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970081282

For the last 36 years. various individuals. groups. and governments have attempted to ascertain the truth about what happened to Mr. Wallenberg after he presented himself to a Soviet street patrol in Budapest on January 13. 1945. These efforts have not been successful because the Soviet Union has chosen not to cooperate with them. Since Mr. Wallenberg undertook his mission in large part because of a request by the American War Refugee Board. I believe that the United States has a special obligation to demonstrate its concern to the Soviets over the handling of the Wallenberg case. For that reason.
