Some 2.100 Greek Cypriots have been missing since the invasion and the Turkish Government has not cooperated with efforts by the United Nations to locate these victims of military aggression. The Turkish military occupation of about 40 percent of the land area of Cyprus continues. enforced by 27.000 Turkish troops. and after the brutal invasion. the Turkish Government imported over 40.000 colonists from Turkey to live on the island. The homeless Greek refugees were not allowed to return to their homes or regain their possessions. Greek Orthodox Churches have been desecrated. and freedom of worship and other human rights are being suppressed. The Turkish aggression has been condemned by the United Nations as well as the United States and freedomloving nations all over the world. and Turkeys continued stranglehold on Cyprus continues to be a flagrant violation of international law. the United Nations Charter. and the Charter of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
